DYLAN RENÉ MENARD / BIRTH SESSION / BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA

The anticipation hung in the air like a misty fall morning. We were all waiting for her arrival, but none more than Josiah and Haleigh, who had spent the last 9 months anxiously yet joyfully looking forward to holding her in their arms.

Labor had been long and hard, but even in the face of the disappointment that comes with a lack of progress and the possibility of facing a cesarean section, both parents remained calm and took their cues from the nurses and doctors at their sides.

After her birth they faced their hardest trial thus far- she was a tiny little thing, 4lb. 2oz. to be exact, and a healthy baby but too small to regulate her own body temperature. She would be sent to the NICU until she could grow bigger and stronger.

I've known people in this situation before, but never have I felt the gravity of it as personally as this time. When Haleigh was released from the hospital and she and Josiah had to go home without their baby... my heart broke in two. They are two of the bravest people I know, and I can't wait until they can bring their little princess home, safe and sound.

UPDATE:

On May 1st, after 13 days in the NICU, beautifully perfect DYLAN RENÉ has been discharged and is GOING HOME to begin life with her mom and dad!!!
